The price of a custom printed balaclava depends on the style, the fabric, the print and the quantity per design.

Most buyers who contact us about printed balaclavas start with their design and the quantity, and the price comes next. It still decides whether a project works, so this guide explains what custom printed balaclavas cost, which choices move the price and why. We work as a custom sublimated balaclava manufacturer, printing all-over designs in-house in Sialkot, Pakistan, so every price factor below is one we deal with every day.

The guide is written for streetwear and merchandise brands, ski and snowboard shops, clubs, event teams, costume ranges and promotional companies. If you are still choosing a design, our balaclava design ideas come first; if you want to know how the print is made, read how sublimated balaclavas are made.

How much does a custom printed balaclava cost?

Catalogue sublimated balaclavas start at about $4.99–9.50 per piece at 50 pieces, depending on style, fabric and print; prices usually fall at larger quantities, and our team confirms the price for every custom order.

That range covers the all-over printed balaclavas in our sublimated balaclava catalogue: 1-hole, 2-hole and 3-hole styles, mesh-eye designs, camo, faces, flags and patterns, mostly on polyester/spandex stretch jersey. A custom order usually starts from one of these styles and adds your artwork and your choices.

We do not publish a fixed price list for custom work, because two balaclavas that look alike can be very different jobs. A plain 1-hole style with your all-over print, packed in bulk, costs less than a fleece-lined 2-hole style with a mesh eye panel, a woven label and a retail pack. A quote based on your design is the only reliable number.

What changes the price of a custom balaclava?

The main price factors are the style and openings, the fabric and any lining, the print coverage, extra decoration, labels, packaging and the quantity per design. The number of colours in a sublimated design usually makes little difference, because every colour is printed in one pass.

Style and openings

Every opening needs a finished edge, so a 2-hole or 3-hole balaclava takes a little more sewing time than a 1-hole or open-face style. A mesh eye or mesh mouth panel adds a second fabric and an extra sewing step. A closed printed face, with the mouth printed on the fabric instead of cut out, is a design choice rather than a cost saving. Our guide to balaclava face openings compares every style.

Our pink camo 1-hole sublimated balaclava: a 1-hole style with one all-over design is one of the simpler jobs to price.

Fabric and warm linings

Our main fabric is polyester/spandex stretch jersey, which takes sharp, bright prints and sits at the lower end of the range. Polyester microfibre is a soft alternative. For winter, fleece-lined, brushed polyester or stretch velvet versions are warmer and usually cost more, because they use more or heavier fabric. Our guide to fabrics for sublimated balaclavas explains which fabric suits which season.

Swatches of stretch jersey, microfibre, stretch velvet and fleece-backed balaclava fabric
Fabric and lining are among the biggest price factors for a printed balaclava.

Our printed balaclavas are sublimated all over, edge to edge, so the whole surface is printed in any case. A single design that runs across all panels is the simplest job. Different artwork on the front, sides and back, or extra logo placements, means more file work and more checks, which can add to the price.

Unlike screen printing, sublimation does not need a screen for each colour, so a photo-realistic face or a ten-colour camo usually costs about the same to print as a two-colour pattern. Colours are matched as closely as possible and confirmed on the mockup and sample; neon and some brand colours cannot be matched exactly. Our guide to balaclava decoration methods compares sublimation with other methods.

Labels and packaging

Woven or printed neck labels, care labels, hang tags, individual polybags and retail packs each add a small amount per piece. They are worth it for products sold in shops, while giveaways and event merchandise often ship in bulk packs. Our help page on labels and packaging lists the options.

Why do “sublimated” balaclava quotes differ so much?

Because the word is used for different products. Some quotes for a “sublimated” balaclava cover a small printed logo panel on a plain mask; ours cover an all-over print, edge to edge. Check what each quote includes before you compare prices.

  • Print coverage: an all-over design, or a logo panel only?
  • Fabric: which fabric, and is there a lining?
  • Style: which openings, and is there a mesh panel?
  • Sample: is a physical sample included or charged?
  • Labels and packaging: included, or extra?
  • Shipping: is the price ex-works, or does it include delivery to your country?

Comparing like with like makes the decision much easier, and our team is happy to explain any line in our quote.

Why is the minimum order 50 pieces per design?

Each design needs its own set-up before the first balaclava is printed: the artwork is placed on the panel template, the colours are checked on the fabric, a test print is made and the cutting is planned. A minimum of 50 pieces per design spreads that work over enough pieces to keep the price per piece sensible.

  • Per design: each design or colourway counts on its own, so 150 balaclavas in three designs means 50 of each.
  • Sizes: tell us how many adult and kids pieces you need for each design, and we confirm the split with the quote.
  • Repeat orders: when a design is repeated, part of the set-up may be reused; we confirm this with the quote.

Fifty pieces per design suits launches, events and test runs. Our page on small runs and on-demand production explains how small orders work, and our minimum order help page answers the common questions.

Do prices fall with larger quantities?

Yes. Prices usually fall at larger quantities, because the set-up for each design is shared across more pieces and printing, cutting and sewing run more efficiently in longer batches.

The saving is usually largest between small and medium runs, when the set-up is a big part of the price; on very large orders, fabric and sewing make up most of the cost. Each product page in our catalogue shows how the price steps down at larger quantities, and our capacity of around 100,000 pieces a month leaves room for large orders. Ask for prices at two or three quantities in the same quote to see where the steps fall for your design.

Print-on-demand services make one balaclava at a time, which is useful for testing an idea, but the price per piece is usually much higher and the product carries the service’s standard fabric and labels. A production run of 50 pieces or more per design lowers the price per piece and lets you choose the fabric, the style, your own labels and your packaging.

Many brands move to their own run once a design sells. Our private label service covers neck labels, hang tags and packs, and Mr Balaclava’s name never appears on your products.

What do the mockup and the sample cost?

The digital mockup is free: send your artwork and we usually send a free digital mockup within 1–2 working days. For a physical sample there are two routes, a pre-paid sample before the order or a free pre-production sample after it.

SampleWhenCostHow you approve it
Free digital mockupUsually within 1–2 working days of receiving your artworkFreeOn screen, as a picture of your design on the balaclava
Pre-paid physical sampleBefore you place the order; about 5–7 daysPaid 100% in advance; deducted only on bulk orders of 1,000+ pieces; shipping charged separately, not refundableYou hold the balaclava and check the fabric, print and fit
Free pre-production sampleAfter the order and the 30% advanceFreeBy photos or video before bulk production

Production starts only after you approve the mockup or the sample. Our help page on sample types compares the routes, and our free balaclava print template helps you prepare a file that needs fewer changes.

How do payment and shipping work?

Payment is 30/30/40: a 30% advance to confirm the order and begin production, 30% during production after you review the work-in-progress update, and the final 40% after the goods pass quality control and are ready for shipment. Shipping is charged by weight, agreed for each order and confirmed before shipment.

Bulk production takes approximately 14 days after sample approval; 7 days is possible only on request. Express courier shipping usually takes 3–6 working days, and larger orders can travel by air or sea cargo. Balaclavas are light, so shipping depends mainly on the total weight and the destination. Our help page on shipping costs explains how it is worked out. If you import into the US, the EU or the UK, ask about duties and import charges with your quote, so the full landed cost is clear.

How do you get an accurate balaclava quote?

Send the artwork, the style and opening, the fabric, the quantity per design, the sizes, labels and packaging, your deadline and the delivery country. The more of these we know, the closer the first quote is to the final price.

  • Tell us how and when the balaclava will be worn, for example under a helmet, on the slopes or at a festival, so we can suggest a fabric that fits the budget.
  • Say whether the product will be sold in shops or given away; that decides how much labelling and packaging you need.
  • Ask for two options if you are unsure, for example a single-layer and a fleece-lined version.
  • Name your deadline; we confirm the schedule with the quote instead of promising a date.

Every order passes our quality control before packing, and our help page on payment terms sets out the 30/30/40 steps. For a real example, see our sublimated animal face mask project.

How to keep custom balaclava costs down

  • Choose a 1-hole or open-face style in polyester/spandex stretch jersey.
  • Use one design across all panels instead of different artwork on each panel.
  • Keep to one design for the whole run, instead of several designs at the 50-piece minimum.
  • Use a printed label or no label for giveaways; keep woven labels and retail packs for products sold in shops.
  • Send artwork that follows our template, so the mockup needs fewer rounds.
  • Plan early, so the order can travel by the most economical shipping route.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to make custom printed balaclavas?

A 1-hole or open-face style in polyester/spandex stretch jersey, with one all-over design and bulk packing, is usually the most economical option. More pieces per design also lower the price per piece.

Can I order fewer than 50 balaclavas?

The minimum is 50 pieces per design, because each design needs its own set-up. If you want to check a design first, a pre-paid physical sample is a way to test it before you order 50.

Does a design with many colours cost more?

Usually not. Sublimation prints every colour in one pass, so a full-colour photo or camo usually costs about the same to print as a simple two-colour design.

Is the mockup really free?

Yes. Send your artwork and we usually send a free digital mockup within 1–2 working days. You can ask for changes before you approve it.

Is the sample cost refunded?

A pre-paid sample is deducted from the order only when the bulk order is 1,000 pieces or more, and its shipping is charged separately and is not refundable. The free pre-production sample costs nothing and is approved by photos or video after the order and the 30% advance.
