Buyer's guide

What is a pom-pom beanie?

A pom-pom beanie, also called a bobble hat, is a knitted beanie with a ball of yarn or fur on top. The pom-pom adds colour and volume and makes the beanie recognisable at a distance, which is why it is a favourite for ski resorts, clubs and winter gift ranges.

A detachable pom-pom lets the wearer wash the beanie, remove the pom-pom or swap it for another colour. Many pom-pom beanies also carry a jacquard pattern or a cable knit.

Earflap beanies

What is an earflap beanie?

An earflap beanie, sometimes called a trapper or Peruvian-style beanie, extends the knit down over the ears in two flaps. Ties under the chin or braided tassels keep the flaps in place in wind, and a lining adds warmth where the ears need it most.

Cable knit

What is a cable knit beanie?

Cables are made by crossing groups of stitches over each other, which raises twisted columns on the surface of the knit. They add thickness as well as texture, so a cable knit beanie is one of the warmest knits you can make.

Cables need a chunky yarn to stand out, so we knit them at low gauges, usually 3GG or 5GG, and finish most cable beanies with a rib cuff.

Brimmed beanies

What is a brimmed beanie?

A brimmed beanie, also called a beanie with a visor or a peaked beanie, combines a knitted crown with a short brim at the front. The brim keeps low sun, rain and snow out of the eyes, which a plain beanie cannot do.

FAQ

Pom-pom and winter beanies: frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for pom-pom and winter beanies?

The minimum order is 50 pieces per design. Larger runs are made on the same lines, with a monthly capacity of around 100,000 pieces.

Are detachable pom-poms available?

Yes. Pom-poms can be sewn on permanently or made detachable, so the beanie can be washed or worn without the pom-pom.

Which pom-pom materials can I choose?

Yarn pom-poms in any colour or colour mix, faux fur pom-poms for a premium look, and related materials to match your design.

Can earflap beanies be lined?

Yes. We line earflap beanies with fleece, cotton or satin, in the crown and the flaps.

Are cable knit beanies warmer than plain beanies?

Yes. Crossing the stitches adds extra layers of yarn, so a cable knit is thicker and warmer than a plain knit in the same yarn.

Can the visor be stiffened?

Yes. The visor can be soft, so it folds with the knit, or stiffened so it keeps its shape. We confirm the finish in the sample.

How long does winter beanie production take?

Standard production lead time is approximately 14 days after sample approval. Actual lead time depends on the product, quantity, customization and material availability, and the confirmed schedule is agreed for each order. Express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS then takes 3–6 working days.
