Buyer's guide
What is a convertible balaclava?
A convertible balaclava is a balaclava whose face covering can be moved or removed. The wearer pulls the face panel down to talk, eat or breathe freely, and back up when the wind picks up, without taking the balaclava off.
Three constructions are common: a hinged panel that flips over the head, a mouth panel that folds down under the chin, and a detachable face piece held by magnets or snaps.
-
Skiing and snowboarding
Full protection on the lift and in the wind, an open face in the queue or the lodge.
-
Cycling and motorcycling
A liner that opens at stops without removing the helmet strap or the whole balaclava.
-
Outdoor and tactical
One piece for changing weather and dust, worn as a hood by day and a full mask at night.
-
City commuting
A warm hood that works as a neck warmer when the wearer steps inside.

FAQ
Convertible balaclavas: frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for convertible balaclavas?
The minimum order is 50 pieces per design. Larger runs are made on the same lines, with a monthly capacity of around 100,000 pieces.
How does a convertible balaclava convert?
Depending on the design, the face panel flips back over the head on a hinge, folds down under the chin, or detaches completely with magnets or snaps. Each gives a full mask, an open hood or a neck warmer from one piece.
Can you make a detachable face piece?
Yes. We have produced a detachable balaclava with a magnetic face piece in Dry Fit Lycra with a 3D mesh lining. The mechanism is built and tested in the sample before bulk production.
Which fabrics suit convertible balaclavas?
Polar fleece and microfleece for warmth, Lycra-spandex blends for stretch and a close fit, and 3D mesh where the wearer breathes. Many designs combine two or three of them.
How long does convertible balaclava production take?
Samples are sent within 5–7 days of your order. Once the sample is approved, standard lead time is 14 days; 7 days is possible on request. Complex products or very large orders (100,000–200,000 pcs) can take up to one month. Express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS then takes 3–6 working days.
