Buyer's guide

Padded, puffer or shell: which ski jacket?

Ski jackets are built in three main ways. A padded jacket has polyester wadding between the shell and the lining and is warm on its own, which suits resort skiers, beginners and rental fleets. A puffer uses polyester fibre fill in stitched baffles for the most warmth and a fashion look. A shell has no insulation at all: it keeps the weather out and leaves warmth to the layers underneath, which suits freeride and active skiers.

Whatever the build, two numbers matter: the waterproof rating of the fabric, from 5K to 20K, and whether the seams are taped. We make every waterproof jacket with the option of fully taped seams, and the rating can be checked by an independent lab on request. Compare the builds on our shell fabrics page.

Padded and puffer jackets

Insulated jackets that are warm on their own

Padded ski jackets have polyester wadding between the shell and the lining, our standard insulation, in a weight set for each style. Puffer jackets use polyester fibre fill in stitched baffles for the most warmth and a fashion look. Both stay warm when damp and wash easily, which suits resort ranges, kids and rental fleets.

Hardshell and technical jackets

Shell jackets for active and freeride skiers

A hardshell has no insulation: a 2-layer, 2.5-layer or 3-layer laminate keeps the weather out and the skier adds warmth with layers underneath. That makes it lighter, more breathable and usable across more of the season. 15K and 20K laminates with fully taped seams are the usual choice for freeride, touring and storm days.

Shell jackets need details that work with a helmet and a backpack: a helmet-compatible hood, underarm vents, a powder skirt and chest pockets above the hip belt.

Softshell jackets

When softshell is the right choice

Softshell moves with the body and breathes far better than a waterproof shell, so it is ideal for high-output skiing, ski touring and spring days, and as a mid-layer under a shell on cold days. It resists wind and light snow, but it is not fully waterproof unless it has a membrane and taped seams.

Snowboard jackets

What makes snowboard wear different

Snowboarders spend more time sitting and kneeling in the snow than skiers, and move in a wider stance. Their jackets are longer to cover the seat and have a powder skirt; their pants are looser, with reinforced seat and knees. Because of the time spent in the snow, 15K or 20K ratings with fully taped seams are common.

FAQ

Ski jackets: frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for ski jackets?

The minimum order is 50 pieces per design.

Which waterproof rating should a ski jacket have?

10K suits most resort skiing. 5K is enough for dry, cold conditions, kids' and entry-level ranges; 15K and 20K are for wet snow, long days outdoors and freeride. We make all four ratings.

Who tests the waterproof rating?

The rating comes from the fabric mill's specification, and independent lab testing is available on request. You can also test the fabric or a sample at any lab you choose, against the specification we agree.

Padded or shell: which jacket should we offer?

A padded jacket is warm on its own and suits resort skiers, beginners, kids and rental fleets. A shell has no insulation and leaves warmth to the layers underneath, which suits freeride and active skiers. Many ranges offer both.

Can you add our logo to a waterproof jacket?

Yes. Embroidery goes where the lining covers the back of the shell, or the logo is heat-transferred, printed or applied as a patch, so the waterproof layer stays sealed.

Do you make women's and kids' fits?

Yes. We make men's, women's, unisex and kids' fits, graded to your own size chart.

Can you make matching ski pants?

Yes. Jackets and pants can be cut from the same fabric lot so the colours match exactly, and sold separately or as a set.

How long does ski jacket production take?

Standard production lead time is approximately 14 days after sample approval. Actual lead time depends on the product, quantity, customization and material availability, and the confirmed schedule is agreed for each order. Express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS then takes 3–6 working days.
