Knitting Yarns
A knitted beanie, balaclava or scarf is only as warm, soft and durable as the yarn it is knitted from. This page compares the yarns we offer, from everyday acrylic and wool blends to cashmere, alpaca and mohair, cotton for milder weather, and recycled yarns. Each yarn shows what is typical for it; the exact blend and colours for your order are confirmed with your quote.

Choosing a yarn
Which yarn for which product?
Start with the climate and the price point, then think about care and the story you want to tell.
-
Everyday beanies and balaclavas
Acrylic and wool blend yarns are warm, easy to wash and can be dyed in almost any colour. They are the usual choice for team, event and retail beanies.
-
Premium winter pieces
Lambswool, cashmere and alpaca feel softer and warmer and suit premium ranges. Blends with wool or nylon make them more durable and easier to knit.
-
Spring, autumn and summer
Cotton, organic cotton and viscose yarns breathe well and feel cool. A rib knit gives cotton the stretch it lacks for a beanie that fits.
-
A softer or greener story
Mohair and chenille give a fluffy or velvety look. Recycled polyester and recycled wool yarns lower the use of new fibre; the recycled share is documented by the spinner.
Branding
How a logo goes on a knit
On knitwear, the logo is usually knitted in as a jacquard pattern, embroidered, or added as a woven label or a patch. Flat prints do not sit well on a knit. Fluffy yarns such as mohair, alpaca and chenille blur fine detail, so they work best with labels, patches or bold knitted-in designs.

FAQ
Knitting yarns: frequently asked questions
Which yarn is warmest for a beanie?
Alpaca, cashmere and lambswool are usually the warmest for their weight. Acrylic and wool blends are warm enough for most winter beanies and are easier to care for.
Is acrylic yarn a good choice for custom beanies?
Yes. Acrylic is soft, light, warm, colourfast and machine washable, and it can be dyed in almost any colour, which is why so many custom beanies are knitted from it. An anti-pilling acrylic keeps the surface neat for longer.
Can you use recycled or organic yarns?
Yes, ask with your quote. The recycled or organic share, and any certificate such as GRS or GOTS, is confirmed only with the spinner's documents for your order.
What is the minimum order for custom knitted beanies?
Orders start at 50 pieces per design. The standard production lead time is approximately 14 days after sample approval, and the confirmed schedule is agreed for each order.
