Buyer's guide

What separates a dress sock from an everyday sock?

A dress sock is thinner, smoother and longer. A fine-gauge knit sits flat inside a leather shoe, the toe seam is flat so it does not press on the toes, and the leg is long enough to cover the skin when trousers ride up. The top band grips lightly, so it stays up without leaving a mark.

Mercerized cotton has a soft sheen and takes colour well, merino is warm and resists odour, and bamboo viscose feels silky. Patterns such as stripes, dots and argyle are woven in by jacquard, so the design is part of the sock and does not fade with washing.

Business and uniform socks

Plain socks for staff, offices and uniforms

Hotels, airlines, banks and security firms order plain black, navy and grey socks in large, repeat quantities. What matters is a consistent colour from one order to the next, a durable heel and toe, and packing by size so every team member gets the right pair.

A combed cotton rib or a mercerized cotton plain knit with a little nylon is the usual choice. We keep your colour references and specification on file, so a reorder matches the first run.

Gift and box sets

Dress socks as gifts and corporate presents

Dress socks are a popular corporate gift and a strong retail gift line. Patterned pairs in a gift box, a set of three in coordinated colours, or a pair with a company motif knitted in all work well, and we pack them in boxes, sleeves or tins to your design.

FAQ

Dress and business socks: frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for dress and business socks?

The minimum order is 50 pairs per design.

What is a hand-linked toe?

Hand linking closes the toe seam stitch by stitch, leaving a very flat seam. It is used for premium dress socks; an automatic flat seam is the more economical option for large orders.

Which yarn suits dress socks best?

Mercerized cotton for a soft sheen, merino for warmth and odour resistance, bamboo viscose for a silky feel. A little nylon adds strength and elastane adds stretch.

Can we have our own pattern?

Yes. Send your artwork and we knit it by jacquard, within the colour and size limits of the machine we confirm with you.

Can you keep our uniform colour the same on every reorder?

Yes. We keep your colour references and the approved specification on file, and every reorder is checked against the first run.

How long does dress sock production take?

Standard production lead time is approximately 14 days after sample approval. Actual lead time depends on the product, quantity, customization and material availability, and the confirmed schedule is agreed for each order. Express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS then takes 3–6 working days.
