Buyer's guide

How grip socks are made

A grip sock is a standard knitted sock with a pattern of silicone or rubber applied to the sole. The grip is printed on after knitting and heat-set, so it bonds to the yarn. Dots are the most common pattern; lines, paw prints, brand logos and full-sole prints are also possible. The number and spacing of the dots decide how much grip the sock gives and how it feels.

Grip socks are used wherever bare or socked feet meet a smooth floor: pilates and yoga studios, dance and barre classes, trampoline parks, hospitals and care homes, and at home. The needs differ, so we suggest the yarn, the grip pattern and the ankle band for each use.

Toe socks

Why wear toe socks?

Toe socks give each toe its own space, which stops the toes rubbing against each other and lets them spread naturally. Runners, hikers and yoga and pilates users wear them for that freedom, and they are popular with people who wear split-toe or minimalist shoes. They are also worn simply for fun, in bold colours and patterns.

Toe socks are more complex to knit than a standard sock, because every toe is shaped separately, so they suit a specialist run. Fit matters: the toe pockets need to match the size chart or the sock feels tight. We confirm the fit on a sample and adjust the pattern before bulk production.

Comfort and homewear

Soft socks for care, hospitality and home

Care homes, hospitals, hotels and homewear brands want a sock that feels soft, does not mark the leg and often grips the floor. Bamboo viscose blends, plush yarns and a gentle top band are the usual build, with a silicone sole where slipping is a risk. See our bamboo socks page for the yarns.

FAQ

Grip and comfort socks: frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for grip and comfort socks?

The minimum order is 50 pairs per design.

Can the grip pattern be our logo?

Yes. The silicone pattern on the sole can be dots, lines or your own artwork, within the size and detail the print allows.

Does the grip wash off?

The silicone is heat-set onto the sole and is made to last through repeated washing. We confirm a wash test on the sample; follow the care label to keep it working.

Can grip socks be made with toes?

Yes. Toe-sock versions with grips are available on request for studio use.

Are toe socks more expensive to make?

Yes, a little. Each toe is shaped separately, which takes more knitting time than a standard sock, so the unit price is higher than a plain crew sock.

How do you make sure the toe fit is right?

We confirm the toe pockets on a sample against your size chart and adjust the pattern before bulk production.

How long does grip sock production take?

Standard production lead time is approximately 14 days after sample approval. Actual lead time depends on the product, quantity, customization and material availability, and the confirmed schedule is agreed for each order. Express shipping by DHL, FedEx or UPS then takes 3–6 working days.
