Custom Beanie Prices: What Decides the Cost per Piece

What a custom beanie costs and why: the beanie itself, the yarn, trims, branding, one-off set-up costs and the quantity tiers, with real examples from our catalog.

Beanie quotes can look very different from one supplier to the next, because each one bundles different things into the price. This guide breaks the price of a custom beanie into its parts, so you can compare quotes and decide where to spend.

The examples use the prices in our beanie catalog, where every beanie shows its price per piece at 50 pieces, and the costs the Order Builder adds for yarns, trims and branding.

What makes up the price of a custom beanie?

Five things: the beanie itself (style, knit and yarn), trims such as a pom-pom or a lining, the branding per piece, a one-off set-up cost per logo, and the quantity you order. Packing and shipping come on top.

How much does the beanie itself cost?

In our catalog a beanie costs from $4.20 per piece at 50 pieces for the classic acrylic cuffed beanie, up to about $8.40 for a merino beanie. The price shown is for the beanie as pictured, in stock and unbranded; your logo is added on top.

BeaniePrice per piece at 50 pieces
Classic cuffed beanie, acrylic$4.20
Fisherman beanie, chunky rib$4.80
Two-tone pom-pom beanie$5.20
Leather patch beanie, wide cuff$5.40
Fleece-lined cable knit beanie, wool blend$6.60
Merino wool cuffed beanie$8.40

Chunkier knits use more yarn, linings and pom-poms add material and work, and natural fibres cost more than acrylic. That is why a lined cable beanie costs more than a fine-rib cuffed beanie of the same size.

How does the yarn change the price?

Acrylic is the reference yarn. Other yarns add an amount per piece, which the Order Builder shows when you choose them: for example about $0.60 for a wool blend and about $2.40 for merino, while recycled polyester adds about $0.15.

  • Acrylic: the reference price; durable and easy care.
  • Wool blend: about $0.60 more per piece, warmer and more natural.
  • Merino: about $2.40 more per piece, the premium choice.
  • Recycled polyester: about $0.15 more per piece, for sports and recycled-content ranges.

How much do logos and labels cost?

Branding has a cost per piece and, for most methods, a one-off set-up cost per logo, such as digitising for embroidery or a mould for a rubber patch. Reorders of the same logo do not pay the set-up again.

MethodPer pieceOne-off set-up
Woven label (outside)$0.25$30
Knitted-in jacquard$0.60$40
Rubber (PVC) patch$0.80$45
Silicone patch$0.85$45
Embroidery$0.90$25
Leather-style patch$0.95$40

Inside labels, care labels, hang tags and packing add a few cents each. A typical retail set, with an inside woven label, a care label and a hang tag, adds about $0.39 per piece plus one-off set-ups for the label and the tag.

How does quantity change the price?

The price per piece goes down as the quantity of each product goes up. Our tiers start at 50 pieces and fall at 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 50,000 pieces.

A worked example

200 classic cuffed beanies in acrylic with flat embroidery on the cuff: the beanie at the 100–499 tier, plus $0.90 per piece for embroidery and a one-off $25 for digitising. Add an inside woven label and a polybag if you sell them in retail. The Order Builder shows this total, step by step, before you order.

What is not in the price?

Shipping, duties and taxes. Shipping method, cost and delivery terms are agreed for each order; FOB quotations are common. A pre-paid physical sample is paid 100% in advance; a free pre-production sample is approved by photos or video after the order.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a beanie cheaper at 1,000 pieces than at 50?

Machine set-up, colour changes and finishing are shared by more pieces, so the price per piece falls as the quantity rises.

Can we mix colours and still get the higher-quantity price?

The tier follows the quantity of each product. Each design needs at least 50 pieces; the quote confirms how colours of the same product are counted.

Are the catalog prices final?

Yes, for the beanie as shown. Your yarn, trims, branding and packing are added in the Order Builder, and the quote confirms the total for your order.
