Step-by-step guide

How to use the Material Library

By the Mr Balaclava team ·

Short answer

The Material Library on our website lists the fabric types we work with. Start with a fabric family or use the filters, read the fabric sheet, then click Get a quote in this fabric to ask for a quote with that fabric already named.

The Material Library shows the fabric types we use for balaclavas, beanies, scarves, caps and hats, socks and ski wear. Fabrics are grouped in families: fleece, cotton, merino wool and wool blends, polyester and recycled polyester, acrylic knits and yarns, performance fabrics, shell and waterproof fabrics, and insulation and linings. The library is available in English, French, German and Spanish.

Find a fabric

  1. Open the Material Library and start with a family card. The family page compares the fabrics in that family.
  2. Or use Filter the fabric library: choose fibre, construction, weight class, product, decoration, use, or recycled or organic option, then click Show fabrics.
  3. If no fabric matches all your filters, remove one, or ask us: we source fabrics to brief.
  4. Read the fabric sheet (see below).
  5. Click Get a quote in this fabric. The Request a quote form opens with the fabric already named. Add the quantity, choose your sample type and how far along your design is, then add your details.

Configure a product in this fabric

Some fabric sheets show Made in this fabric: products we make in that fabric. Click Configure with this fabric → to open the Order Builder for that product with the fabric already chosen. See Configure your order online.

How to read a fabric sheet

  • Typical for this fabric type: general textile guidance, such as construction, usual composition, weight class, feel, common finishes, season, and warmth, breathability and stretch compared with the other fabrics in the library. It is not a lab measurement of our fabric.
  • Specification: only the details we have verified for our fabric. Anything not listed there is confirmed with your quote.
  • Decoration suitability: which methods suit this fabric type, marked for example suitable, test first or not suitable. We confirm the method on your sample before bulk production.
  • Responsible options: whether a recycled-content or organic-fibre version is available, or that you can ask for one with your quote.
  • Photos show a representative texture, not a photo of our fabric.

Good to know

  • The exact composition, weight and colour depend on the mill and the season, and are confirmed with your quote before sampling.
  • You can also send your own fabric reference: the fabric name, composition, GSM and a photo.
  • Two guides explain the details: the Fabric Weight & GSM Guide and the Textile Certifications Guide.
