# Quality Control in Headwear Manufacturing

Quality at Mr Balaclava is checked at four points: the fabric and yarn on arrival, the first pieces off the line against the approved sample, inline during sewing and branding, and a final inspection of every finished piece before packing. Batch photos go to you before dispatch, and lab test reports for your product are available on request. Eco Jersey Limited, which powers Mr Balaclava, is ISO 9001 certified and a Sedex member.

- **50 pcs** Minimum per design
- **14 days** Standard lead time
- **100K pcs** Monthly capacity
- **3–6 days** Shipping (DHL, FedEx, UPS)
- **ISO 9001** Certified (Eco Jersey Limited)

The four checkpoints

## Where quality is checked, and what for

| Checkpoint | What is checked | Reference |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Incoming fabric and yarn | Shade against the lab dip, width, weight, visible defects, shrinkage and stretch recovery on a test piece | Approved swatch and lab dip |
| 2. First pieces off the line | Measurements, seam types, branding position and colour on the first production pieces before the run continues | Approved sample and tech pack |
| 3. Inline, during sewing and branding | Operators check their own work; supervisors check seams, stitch density, thread ends and embroidery or print quality at each line | Tech pack construction notes |
| 4. Final inspection, every piece | Measurements within tolerance, seams and finishing, colour consistency across the batch, branding, labels, loose threads, packing as specified | Tech pack measurement table and packing instructions |

Final inspection

## The checklist for a finished piece

Every piece is handled once more before it goes into its bag or box. The inspector works from the approved sample and the tech pack, not from memory.

- **Measurements** at the points listed in the tech pack, within the stated tolerance.
- **Seams and stitching:** stitch density, no skipped stitches or open seams, bar-tacks in place, thread ends trimmed.
- **Fabric and colour:** no holes, marks or shade differences between panels or across the batch.
- **Branding:** embroidery or print in position, correct colours, no puckering, cracking or misregistration.
- **Labels and trims:** correct size and care labels, hang tags, pom-poms, drawcords and zips working.
- **Packing:** folded, bagged and labelled as specified, correct quantities per carton.

Testing

## Tests we run and reports you can ask for

Basic tests are done in-house on the fabric and the sample. Third-party lab tests are arranged on request when your market or your retailer requires a report.

- **Shrinkage and stretch** Wash and dry a test piece, measure the change and the recovery; the result is built into the pattern.
- **Colourfastness** Rubbing and washing checks on the dyed fabric and on prints, so colours do not bleed onto skin or other garments.
- **Pilling and seam strength** Abrasion checks on fleece and knits; pull tests on seams and embroidery.
- **Lab reports on request** Third-party test reports for your product, for example for flame-resistant or kids' products. You may also test with your own lab and certify for your market.

### What we do not claim

We do not state that a product meets a standard unless a test report for that product says so. Eco Jersey Limited, which powers Mr Balaclava, holds the ISO 9001 certificate and the Sedex membership; details are shared with customers who have an order history with us or place a substantial order. Fabrics come from OEKO-TEX® certified mills, and the mill's certificate is available on request.

Your part

## How you see quality before the goods arrive

1. **Approved sample** The physical sample you approve is the standard the whole order is inspected against.
2. **Photos at milestones** First pieces, mid-production and packed cartons, sent by your account manager by email or WhatsApp.
3. **Pre-shipment check** Batch photos or a video call from the inspection table before dispatch; a third-party inspection can be arranged.
4. **After delivery** Report any issue within the period stated in our policies; we replace or credit confirmed defects and record the cause for the next run.

FAQ

## Quality control: frequently asked questions

**### Is every piece inspected, or a sample of the batch?**

Every finished piece goes through final inspection before packing. Fabric inspection on arrival and the first-piece check happen once per batch.

**### What is the acceptable tolerance on measurements?**

Tolerances are written in the tech pack per measurement point and depend on the product and the fabric; knits and stretch fabrics have wider tolerances than woven caps. You see and approve them before the sample.

**### Can I get a test report for my product?**

Yes, on request. We arrange third-party lab tests for the properties your market requires, or you can test with your own lab. Report costs are quoted with the order.

**### Can I send my own inspector?**

Yes. Third-party inspections and factory audits can be arranged with your account manager, before dispatch or during production.

**### What happens if I find defects after delivery?**

Send photos and the quantity affected within the period in our policies. Confirmed defects are replaced in full, and the cause is recorded in your file so the next run avoids it.

**### Are you ISO 9001 certified?**

Eco Jersey Limited, which powers Mr Balaclava, is ISO 9001 certified and a Sedex member. Copies of the certificate and the membership details are shared with customers who have an order history with us or place a substantial order.
